ON THE 12TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS ENDXRPHIN BRINGS YOU: JAY’S TOP 5 SINGLES OF 2016

Welcome to our final day of 12 days of Christmas! We made it! And didn’t miss a single day!! Anyway, I am an unapologetic pop stan, and this year was not the greatest really. I mean, Lady Gaga released a country album for crying out loud. But regardless, there were still enough good singles to making a top 5 list impossible to make.

I’ll start by listing my honorable mentions first, followed by the actual list.

Honorable mentions:

  • Every single Ariana Grande released this year
  • Money – That Poppy
  • Thrills – Sizzy Rocket
  • Starboy – The Weeknd
  • One Dance – Drake
  • DamnRa – Ravi
  • Cheap Thrills – Sia
  • All In My Head (Flex) – Fifth Harmony
  • LGBT – Cupcakke
  • Chantaje – Shakira ft Maluma

5. CHARLIE PUTH FT SELENA GOMEZ – WE DON’T TALK ANYMORE

The moment I heard this song I thought to myself “this is a perfect summer single” and what do you know! I was right. With the production being left to a guitar and a simple beat, the song isn’t cluttered with sounds and still manages to be great. The key point that made this song a hit was that, simplicity. With a nice blend of Puth and Gomez’s vocals, this song is perfect to listen to on a chill summer night.

4. GOT7 – FLY

Got7 have been known for making banger singles, and this was no exception. The masterful production and vocal arrangement gives the song an airy feel to it, perfect to go with the theme of the song. With great vocals and lyrics full of meaning, this love song is both a stand out of the year and of Got7’s discography.

3. LITTLE MIX – SHOUT OUT TO MY EX

The second best thing to come out of One Direction (the first coming later down the list) Little Mix brought us a perfect pop anthem this year. The breakup song brings an anthemic chorus that is perfect for concerts and for screaming at the top of your lungs while driving down a long road. With the uplifting track, Little Mix proves once again why they’re one of the biggest girl groups in the world.

2. CASHMERE CAT FT SELENA GOMEZ & TORY LANEZ

Gomez starts the sensual song with a moan and a laugh. Do I even need to go on? fine, fine. With the amazing production that Cashmere Cat is know for, (surprisingly) strong vocals from Gomez, and an adequate verse from rapper-for-rent Lanez, this song delivers a perfect hit.

1. STEVE AOKI FT LOUIS TOMLINSON – JUST HOLD ON

THEY’RE FINALLY LETTING LOUIS SING!!

Ahem… sorry about that.

This track with signature Steve Aoki production, and strong vocals comes to us at the end of the year but that doesn’t stop it from being, in my book, the best single out this year. Tomlinson delivers stand out vocals with his unique voice. The lyrics remind us that even if the year was shit, we gotta keep moving on. An inspiration to take with us into 2017 and whatever troubles that year will bring us. A reminder to learn from the bad things and grow as a person.

Also watch the emotional first live performance in honor of Tomlinson’s late mother

Thank you for sticking with us these 12 days, it was truly a trip. We really hope you enjoyed it and maybe found a new song you like!

Stay tuned tomorrow for a festive surprise 🎅
