ON THE 3RD DAY OF CHRISTMAS ENDXRPHIN BRINGS YOU: ANSO’S TOP 5 SINGLES OF 2016

Hey guys! Today I’m gonna tell you what are my fave singles released this year. Hopefully you’re gonna like the list and maybe discover new promising artists ?

Let’s start the list with…

5. GEMINI FEED BY BANKS

After teasing us last year with the song Better, Banks finally announced the release date of her anticipated second album this summer. Gemini Feed, the second single, is definitely my favorite song from the album. It’s so cathy and the production is probably what I like the most about it.

4. BURN THE WITCH BY RADIOHEAD

This single from the newest Radiohead album, A Moon Shaped Pool, is without a doubt one of the best singles of the year, in my opinion. The instrumental of this song is amazing, it’s like listening to an orchestra. The lyrics are simple, but deep and, combined with it’s music video, the message that the band tried to pass with this song is pretty obvious. (Yes, we’re gonna let you guess it, we’re not gonna do all the work for you, come on)

3. Told You I’d Be with the Guys by Cherry Glazerr

I hadn’t listen to Cherry Glazerr really until this year when a friend introduced me to the music video of this song. It’s a #GIRLPOWER kind of song and was written by Clementine when she realized that she needed to “consciously strive for solidarity with other women in order to combat the sexism that is ingrained in our culture and consequentially within herself”.  I really like the rock sound of it and it’s build up  with the guitar riffs.

2. Man on the Moon by Zella Day

I heard this song for the first time this summer when I saw Zella Day performing at Montreal. I instantly loved it, Zella is a good performer and knows how to captive her audience, I didn’t even need to know the song or all the lyrics to like it. It’s when she released the studio version that I truly realized how good it is. It’s hard to describe the sound of the song, but it has this dreamy vibe and you just want to dance you when you’re listening to it.

1. Hello Today by Black Honey

My fave single of this year is definitely Hello Today by the indie rock band Black Honey. With the French lyrics (a plus) and a psychedelic vibe, this song makes you feel like you’re in a movie from the 70s and you’re probably about to kill somebody (an ex lover maybe ?) or running away (from your ex lover ???). I highly recommend listening to it while driving, hair in the wind, on the highway (If you’re having a cold winter don’t do it tho, wait for this Summer).
